Don’t Let Winter Stop Stockpile Measurements

An early blast of cold air has hit much of the USA this past week, and will be moving to the east.

Winter has arrived early this year— even in states like Minnesota and Montana that are accustomed to cold weather.

The return of the Polar Vortex means that only a few states will escape the arctic blast– those in the Southwest, Hawaii, a few areas in Alaska and South Florida. We have customers from all over the USA and they have business to do, rain or shine, snowy or sunny! Some of our clients have asked us if our iPhone App will work measuring their snowy piles.

As long as the snow is not fresh and perfectly white, and the temps aren’t below -4º F you will get accurate measurements outside. Ideally iPhones are designed for usage in temperatures between 32º to 95º F. If the temperature drops below 32º, Apple recommends keeping your phone turned off and stored somewhere warmer until you need to use it. To keep your iPhone warm keep it close to your body when you are outside.

A lot of us are thinking (wistfully) about Summer. Stockpile Reports pulled several photos from this past year in many different weather temperatures that generated accurate stockpile reports– from snowy sites in the upper Midwest, desert areas, the Pacific Northwest and stockpiles on the East Coast. Take a look!
